Ever noticed how a simple night light can calm our fears in the darkness? Just like how we train kids to sleep with a night light, we, too, are called to be night lights in a world filled with fear and chaos. In John 13-14, Jesus comforts His disciples in a dark moment, assuring them of His presence and promising them the Holy Spirit. He tells them that they will do even greater things than He did, but how? It's a two-fold process: obedience to His Word and reliance on His Holy Spirit. The Word and the Spirit go hand in hand. Without the Spirit, the Word remains dormant; without the Word, the Spirit lacks direction. We often find ourselves leaning towards one extreme or the other: pursuing spiritual experiences without grounding in the Word, or studying the Word without engaging with the Spirit. But true power comes from the synergy of both. Consider Brennan's story: struggling with addiction, he found victory not through his efforts alone, but by leaning on the Holy Spirit. The Spirit brings the Word alive, empowers obedience, and guides us through life's challenges. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would be a better teacher and guide than even He was.
